Stay on the Path

He who knows men is clever;
He who knows himself has insight.
He who conquers men has force;
He who conquers himself is truly strong.
He who knows when he has got enough is rich,
And he who adheres assiduously to the path of Tao is a man of steady purpose.
He who stays where he has found his true home endures long,
And he who dies but perishes not enjoys real longevity.

You may abandon Science if you wish,
but only after you have studied it thoroughly,
found where it is wanting,
and discovered it’s replacement.

This, then, would be the Tao, The Way.

You may abandon Religion if you wish,
but only after you have practiced it thoroughly,
found where it is wanting,
and discovered it’s replacement.

This, then, would be Te, Virtue.

The Compassionate Warrior

A good soldier is never agressive;
A good fighter is never angry.
The best way of conquering an enemy
Is to win him over by not antagonizing him.
The best way of employing a man
Is to serve under him.
This is called the virtue of non-striving!
This is called using the abilities of men!
This is called being wedded to Heaven as of old!

The Great Artist

The
Difference
Between a good artist
And a great one
Is;
The novice
Will often lay down his tool
Or brush
Then pick up an invisible club
On the mind’s table
And helplessly smash the easels and
Jade.
Whereas the vintage man
No longer hurts himself or anyone
And keeps on
Sculpting
Light

This Song Has No Zen

High, high from the summit of the peak,
whatever way I look, no limit in sight!
No one knows I am sitting here alone.
A solitary moon shines in the cold spring.
Here in the spring – this is not the moon.
The moon is where it always is – in the sky above.
And though I sing this one little song,
in the song there is no Zen.
